About Peace Pledge-Chicago

Peace Pledge-Chicago started meeting in August of 2002 under the name Iraq Peace Pledge as a response to the growing drumbeat of war on Iraq. The group was initially geared toward preventing that war, with a particular focus on the use of nonviolent civil disobedience as a tool for promoting peace (learn more on the Peace and Justice Pledge page). Since that initial meeting, the Pledge has organized dozens of different events -- demonstrations, nonviolent civil disobedience actions, screenings, lectures, and educational evenings. The name of the group was changed to the more encompassing Peace Pledge-Chicago to better represent the group's work toward building a pro-active nonviolent movement for a peaceful and just global community.
